Leveraging over 30 years of material science, Engineered Syntactic Systems (ESS) newest syntactic foam development is the creation of a low isotropic CTE, high durability tooling board. This tooling board is easily machined, dust-free, and polishes to a Class A finish. The unique formulation eliminates cracking due to thermal shock at cure temperatures up to 275°F, making the board an excellent choice for composite fabrication in pre-preg and autoclave cure, wet lay-up, vacuum infusion, and other composite processes. Working with PrISUm Solar Car allows for an excellent interaction to solve challenges and develop new techniques of benefit to the entire composites industry.

At Iowa State’s College of Engineering, we take pride in our commitment to education, research, and engagement. With a strong history that traces back to the university’s earliest days, we continue a rich tradition of leading technology development and innovation. We emphasize creativity as we work to solve real problems, collaborating with partners across the world and extending the impact of our work beyond the borders of our campus. Our partnership with PrISUm allows students to gain real world engineering experience without leaving campus. Coastal Enterprises is a privately held company founded in 1973 by Mr. Chuck Miller, President, after his participation in the Saturn S-II Space Program at Rockwell International. The Saturn Launch Vehicle used polyurethane foam as its exterior fuel tank insulator, and it was at this time that his experience with this unique material began. PrISUm is able to use the polyurethane foam to build its molds as the first step in the composites process for Eliana’s large body panels.

Siemens PLM Software is a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) and manufacturing operations management (MOM) software. With over 170 years of experience, Siemens is excited to partners with PrISUm in the development of the world’s first Solar Utility Vehicle. By the utilization of advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, team members will be able to optimize the aeroshell of the car.

Spectrolab’s state-of-the-art space solar cells and panels power satellites in Earth’s orbit, as well as, the International Space Station. Since its founding in 1956, Spectrolab has led the way in the development of high-efficiency solar cells for space missions. Spectrolab has demonstrated its enduring technological leadership by being the first company to place cells on the moon (Apollo 1969), on the surface of Mars (Rover 2004), and orbit Jupiter (Juno 2016). Thanks to Spectrolab’s support, Eliana will be able to utilize cutting-edge solar cells that maximize efficiency and enable PrISUm to continue reaching for the stars.
